The Setting

Frontier Lands takes place in the star system Frontier A2 on the far reaches of the known systems. Far from the eyes of Central Security, Frontier A2 for the most part takes care of its own business and has become a haven for those looking to make a name for themselves, happy to be a big fish in a small pond - albeit a small pond with very few laws.

Frontier A2

Frontier A2 is a small system with a G-class star at its centre. Three habitable terrestrial planets orbit the star (known as the "Lone Star") each of which have one orbiting moon.

In order from closest orbit to most distant from the Lone Star are Pheron (a dry, arid world), Obrion (a rich, fertile planet) and Mara (a cold, industrialised planet).

A number of years ago, drawn by the busy import/export economy at the time, the Methuselah Corporation invested in an orbiting casino to draw truckers and locals alike. However the orbits of the planets and casino only make it a viable venue once every month at most, leading to it having limited openings for these special events.

Pheron

Dry and dusty Pheron orbits closest to the Lone Star. Many of the inhabitants have developed underground housing and stay out of the star's heat during the peak of the day. Covered market places similar in style to Middle Eastern bazaars have become the social and economic hub for the one major town - Pheron City.

Due to the bartering and with many dark corners in which to do business in the twisting, turning rows of stalls and rooms, Pheron is the place to come for weapons and fuel. However water is at a premium.

The main fixer on Pheron is a man by the name of Loukas - a man through whom it is said all major trades must flow. Loukas also hears many rumours and whispers.

Pheron experiences regular solar flares leading to the planet literally shutting down for a week every few months.

Obrion

Slap in the middle of the Lone Star's "Goldilocks" zone, Obrion could easily have been a perfect Garden of Eden...if it wasn't for the early leaders turning it into one huge farm and selling most produce out of system to the highest bidder.

There are still beautiful vistas to be found, but aside from workers and outcasts, most people live in the capital Shieff in order to do business - a city about as high-tech and advanced as you could hope to get on the frontier. Some buildings even have hot showers! With an abundance of food, Obrion is not a place for cheap fuel - with most reserved for the vast trawlers to refuel for their return trips.

The main fixer is rich local businessman Benno, always willing to pay outsiders in order to keep his hands clean when less....ethical...work is needed to be done.

Obrion is inaccessible during planetary audit weeks - deemed vital to ensure the successful flow of money.

Mara

No-one lives on Mara for the views...or the stale recycled air pumped throughout the vast industrial plants bolted to the planet's surface. They live there to make the credits that they can to keep themselves and their family from starving.

Unapologetically a worker's planet with a strong unionised workforce, Mara's living areas are tight, claustrophobic and sparsely lit, but are generous with bars, food halls and very reasonable prices for workers. With plenty of water available from the planet's frozen poles, Mara smuggling network stretches across the system. However a shortage of food for trade and a ban on weapons for visitors makes morally flexible local union boss and bar owner Bacchus a man that every visitor really needs to check in with if they want to make a deal.

With an asteroid belt between Mara and the inner planets, there are times when travel there is deemed too unsafe.

The Lucky Saloon

Methuselah Corporation's orbiting casino's golden years are slightly behind it, but most of the neon still shines and the garish carpets are only threadbare in the busier walkways. Most importantly, the machines still work, the wheels still spin and credits and chips still change hands regularly during the special events.

While the Lucky Saloon has gained a reputation for the presence of less-welcome individuals and shadier deals, it's still the place to be for anyone wanting a week of excess, drinking, gambling and partying.

You never know who you might meet and how lucky you might get!

Due to its orbit compared to planets, The Lucky Saloon is only open sporadically but makes up for it when it is open!
